In my day PTSD wasn’t acknowledged
I spent a fortune on psychiatrists who told me that there was nothing wrong with me
Recently a wise young lady made me aware of CPTSD — it explained so many of my symptoms
“Complex PTSD (C-PTSD or CPTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop following prolonged or repeated trauma, rather than a single event. In addition to traditional PTSD symptoms, it profoundly impacts an individual’s emotional regulation, self-concept, and ability to maintain healthy relationships.”
“C-PTSD is typically the result of long-term, repeated trauma, especially situations where escape feels impossible.”
Common origins include
Childhood abuse
I suffered this from my mother whose abuse lasted 63 years and 8 moths (until the day she died)
I have flash backs to when I was in my cot
I was shut in the wood burning part of a wood stove when it was lit when i was four
she admitted when i was ten that she bashed me because she felt like it
Yet her mental abuse was worse
She told lies at my expense (and Dads when he was alive) to get attention or to get what she wanted
or chronic trauma
I count at least 12 major traumas
Prolonged domestic violence
I had two abusive husbands
