I am listening to Patrick Stewart “Making It So” on Audible
When he speaks in his Yorkshire dialect he then translates into normal English
–I don’t need this translation—
My Dad was from Yorkshire (he grew upon a farm)
One of his sayings that made me laugh
Was — “Put wood inthole”
Translation –“shut the door”
I was born in Wigan Lancashire
We travelled to Australia on the SS Strathnaver in 1952 and arrived at Outer Harbour South Australia on the 2nd March
I turned three on board ship
We returned to the UK in 1959 and stayed six months in a two up two down house
Patrick Stewarts home was only one up one down
At the time I had difficulty understanding my grandfather’s dialect
These days dialects are not as broad
