PENNY SLOTS ON TOILET DOORS

This “poem” no longer has meaning

“Here I sit broken hearted

Paid a penny

And only farted”

I remember having to pay a penny at the Adelaide railway station

When I was a child I travelled to Adelaide by myself every week to attend Gwen Mackey’s ballet school (which was in the grounds of the Adelaide railway station)

Not having a penny for the toilet was a real problem

  1. I remember a time when “needing to go” when out of money…
I would crawl under the locked door —
Hey… I was about 6, and it only happened once or twice.
