We used to say “For The Fallen” at school assembly
Always brings tears 😦
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
On the morning of 25 April 1915, Allied forces landed on the Gallipoli peninsula in Ottoman Turkey. The British Army landed at Cape Helles. Troops of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) landed north of Gaba Tepe (Kabatepe) headland, on a beach later called ‘Anzac Cove’.

I remember a teacher telling us that from a strategic view point the Aussies and New Zealanders were considered gun fodder
I stood in my driveway at dawn.
