noun
1.
the power of apparently influencing events by using mysterious or supernatural forces.
“suddenly, as if by magic, the doors start to open”

The first page of my Book of Shadows which was started in 1983

“Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfil
An it HARM NONE
Do what thou will”
Despite training “would be witches” last century and earlier this century I stopped believing that we create our own reality.
I now acknowledge that we do but that there are other variables influencing this:
not the least being the thoughts and words of other homo sapiens.
Plus we are programmed to believe we have no control over our lives and that there are experts –
(Ex spurts = unknown drips under pressure)
that know better than us
Hence the Witches Pyramid “says” To know: to Dare: to Will and TO KEEP SILENT
I used to tell neophytes that it is intent that matters and emotion that empowers.
We draw energy by chanting and dancing (the cone of power).
Most people would be aware of the idea of a self fulfilling prophecy:
“A self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive feedback between belief and behaviour.” Wikipedia

The power of suggestion –When I am in too much pain to cope or my anxiety disorder kicks in I say to my self “RELAX” and “SMILE”.
Try saying smile to yourself and see what happens 😀
Another thing about magic is
that it our subconscious
–we witches call younger self
–that communicates with our higher self—
which I personally call my true self —
and our subconscious takes everything literally
any good psychologist or hypnotherapist will tell you this
Since I was seven I remember being able to sense my
“true self”
this is difficult to explain
it isn’t like transactional analysis — It doesn’t feel like a “parent” or “adult”
but something wise and powerful
I am mentioning it because I know others feel this
I believe that our culture programmes us to feel powerless –
But won’t go off on a tangent about this
There is so much available on magic and spells these days:
My favourite is Marion Weinstein’s “Positive Magic”

And the following is a quote from Doreen Valiente’s “Natural Magic”:
“Believe in the possibility of what you intend to do, hold it strongly in your mind, and it will happen.”
A spell from my very old book of shadows.
When I collect the leaves from the Bay Laurel I thank both the tree and the leaves. I may seem weird to others but I don’t care.

Bay Leaf Spell
Prepare a container with live coals or charcoal blocks:
Scatter crumbled bay leaves over them:
concentrate on the wish you are making:
Chant:
“Bay leaf burn fire
Draw to me my heart’s desire.”
Speak of your wish aloud:
And repeat the ritual thrice.

Blessed be
and be kind to non- human life forms.

A SHORT STORY ABOUT HEALING THE BLUE PLANET
I wrote and published this sci fi short story a few years ago (under the above title) when the human population was only 7.4 billion:
(1st published 4th April 2017)
It is now 8 billion.
Our cultural norms and the Protestant Ethic are causing the extinction of all life.
I wrote this as social satire and sympathetic magic
I realize my writing style doesn’t fit what people expect
My excuse –I majored in sociology not literature 😛
I wanted to put my idea that humans are not indigenous to the planet
A few lines from this short story:
“Most humans think that those who live in harmony with the environment are primitive and inferior. Actually they don’t think.
They just mindlessly conform to what those in power and their entertainment media tell them.
They are really stupid but consider themselves superior to all other life forms because they talk:
They think if something or someone doesn’t talk they don’t understand.
They thoughtlessly destroy everything. They call some creatures vermin, when humans are the vermin. They kill insects and destroy all the trees despite the fact that insects and trees are essential.
And everything literally goes down the drain polluting the oceans instead of nourishing other life.”
In the following book I hope to help those who wish to develop their clairvoyant abilities.
In “The Clairvoyant Experiences Of A Sceptic” I told a few of my clairvoyant experiences.
Listening to others similar stories made me realize that
it is so much better if you can have these experiences first hand.
Kung fu tz (Confucius) say “Perseverance prospers”
So don’t give up – you will succeed
And use the recorded meditations in my blog
The clairvoyant Experiences of a Sceptic is not a literary masterpiece
I wanted people to know that we do survive death and that we have abilities that we have been programmed to believe don’t exist
I dont know the meaning of life:
nor understand the nature of reality:
I do know physical death is not the end.
And there are so many amazing stories omitted so as not to break client confidentiality.
The second part I wrote as therapy and had not intended to include.
It wasn’t included in the original l publication
( I started shaking when I tried to write about the abuse so it is badly written and a great deal omitted)
I tried my best to practice ahimsa before I was aware of this word/concept
Impossible in a culture that believes only humans have a soul and only money matters
I fed the local birds for 25 years when i lived at Goolwa –not accptable now that I am in a retiement village
Mindless automatons told me
“Do not to feed the birds -they are meant to find their own food”
It doesn’t occur to them that the human plague (of 8 Billion) has destroyed the homes and food sources of all other life – making so many extinct.
The larger birds (carnivores) kill the smaller birds for food because thanks to homo sapiens there are not enough mice worms or small reptiles for them to eat
A couple of years back in Australia they started culling the kookaburras to stop them killing the smaller birds
I feed the crows too –one neighbour complained about their noise
The other told me that she likes the Ibis but not the crow.
Crows like many other life forms are disliked because of cultural programming
The crow I fed, fed the baby before she? fed herself
I wasn’t able to take a photo because the baby flew away when I walk outside – came back when I went in.
Humans have this effect on me — have said I am anthrophobic for decades – don’t think it is an actual word)
It upsets me that people use poisons and insecticides
Kill snail s —-I was upset this morning by a post about killing snails
And label rats and mice vermin
And then there are kangaroos which most farmers consider vermin and kill them
In the 1970s I was a member of the original Greenpeace
We were labelled dangerous radicals
I was ridiculed and abused for being in Animal Liberation and a vegetarian
This has changed
These days I am abused for caring about insects moths and spiders
And told that insects are vermin and dangerous to my health
Humans are dangerous–
Considering all the positive changes in my life time I am optimistic that
the caring, intelligent people will prevail and stop all life from becoming extinct.
Enjoy your day
I am so happy to know that so many humans care about other life forms
I have stopped watching television but if I chromecast from same I see ads re eating parts of the corpses of animals that have been factory farmed and production line slaughtered or creatures that have been boiled alive
(I also object to using insect spray – so don’t like these ads either)
I have been vegetarian since the 1970s and when I was younger used to cook meat for my family but this century I have refused to cook meat

In South Australia in the 1970’s and 80’s vegetarians and vegans were not catered for.
There was a cafe on the corner of Hindmarsh Square and Rundle Street Adelaide, called “Carrots” :
one restaurant that catered for vegans
and a Lebanese restaurant that offered a vegetarian platter.
The only vegetarian food one could buy was by Sanitarium
which was, and am guessing still is, owned by the Seventh-day Adventist church.
(And very much appreciated — Thank you Seventh Day Adventists)
We were ridiculed and abused by those in pubs, restaurants and people generally.
I made my own burghers using lentils, vegetable and bread crumbs and at a surprise birthday party for my (now ex) husband all the carnivores were eating these:
not realizing they had no meat.
I didn’t insist my family were vegetarian
I would make a vegetarian dish to share
and also cook meat.
If I ate meat I would have night mares about being an animal in a slaughter house.
I object to factory farming and production line slaughter.
Of course the reason the setup is this way is there are way to many humans.

I didn’t want to eat meat as a child:
for refusing I received a bashing from my mother:
she threatened to have me put in a mental institution
and served me the same meal for breakfast lunch and tea until I ate it.
I have allowed myself to eat meat on a few occasions over the years usually because I was anaemic
The night mares return plus my digestive system doesn’t handle meat.
In this day and age when there are so many vegans, I never expected to be ridiculed but it has happened on several occasions.
I complimented one woman on having soy milk in her coffee and she abused the hell out of me:
Said that she wasn’t vegan (which according to her is worse than leprosy ) she had soy milk because she liked it.
It is important to me that I am always honest so I must confess that sadly I have only been a part time vegan— but still vegetarian:
Hoping this time around I will stay vegan.
If I ate eggs I bought those produced locally as I have been to the farm where the chickens are and I would live where they live 😀

I cannot watch cooking shows:
Haven’t cooked meat for anyone since 1998
I am horrified that people think eating creature that is boiled alive is a treat.

A friend asked me why vegans avoid dairy :
I explained that the cows are kept continually pregnant:
the calves go to slaughter and their mothers know.
In my opinion the drug companies are worse than the meat industry.
In 1982 the husband of one of my staff asked me to report that suckie calves were left to die of dehydration & starvation.
I was told by someone who bought stock that
all new borns are just left to die that way.
In 1982 I reported what was told to me to the RSPCA who called me a liar and a trouble maker.
I put something inwriting but it was ignored.
Animal Liberation told me to write to my politician.
Nothing.
Years later an acquaintance who had worked in the abattoirs told me that the drug companies ask for this.
And my podiatrist (an animal activist) told me that the drug companies collect hormones from this type of death.
People just don’t want to know.

This information is just to inform not undermine your spiritual beliefs :

Christmas was originally the pagan festival of Yule — Mid Winter — moved a few days: Every church festival was originally a pagan festival. The church of Rome incorporated them because they couldn’t get rid of same.
After the emperor Constantine made Christianity the religion of Rome there was a meeting at Niacea to decide what to put in the New Testament and what to leave out..
With a huge empire it was easier to control the masses with a religion. Hence the Inquisition to get rid of the Old Religion and the women healers who had– herbal remedies: contraception and abortion and replace the with men who used leeches and blood-letting: Couldn’t have contraception if you wanted to populate armies.
The Wheel of the Year is from my Book of Shadows:

Have a Merry Christmas: Blessed Yule: or Blessed Litha (Summer Solstice)
AND BE BLESSED
Wrote this hoping people would question the nature of reality
HONESTY IS IMPORTANT TO ME — THIS IS A TRUE STORY
I dont know the meaning of life:
nor understand the nature of reality:
I do know physical death is not the end.
People tend to believe that a belief in God and heaven is necessary for a belief in an “afterlife”
Surviving death isn’t synonymous with a religious belief.
We do not understand the nature of reality.
(or at least I don’t)
It appears we exist in an alternate reality when we are “not here”! In this reality the electrons are apparently moving at a different speed around the protons and neutrons so it is out of phase. ( This is my very limited understanding of quantum physics)
Another misconception is that people have to be “earth bound” to communicate with the living:
NOT SO!
I asked “clairvoyantly” about “the meaning of life” which strangely enough isn’t 42 (Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy)
The answer I got was more a concept than words but translated:
I was asked if I could conceptualize NO LINEAR TIME and when I said “No” I was told that “they” couldn’t explain.
This would explain why people not in linear time are out of phase
Any clairvoyant will tell you that images and words flash in a fraction of a second
We may all be in a huge holodeck:
As suggested by Star Trek Next Generation —
And “What The Bleep”
“Ship In A Bottle” season six — Star Trek Next Geneeration
In the “special features” of What the “Bleep” they mention that Professor WilliamTiller gives the mathematical constructs of a hologram that we “are” living in.
(William A. Tiller is a professor emeritus of materials science and engineering at Stanford University)
Until the following I suspected clairvoyance was wishful thinking and vivid imagination
The incident that convinced me that clairvoyance was a reality happened at work. I was a student nurse at Strathmont Centre. I was washing dishes with a male staff nurse. We didn’t have kitchen hands in those days. Kym was six feet tall and rather heavy set and had long blonde hair. A man (deceased) flashed in (when I see or hear things they flash in a fraction of a second) He had Kym’s high forehead and similar features but wore a suit with a crepe ribbon and a cross and had a short back and sides haircut and dark hair.
I asked Kym if his father was a minister. He asked me why and initially I would not answer. I eventually told him what I saw and Kym told me that it was his uncle. He asked me what denomination his uncle was.
I did not know.
After Kym left the kitchen I asked his uncle, whom I could no longer “see”, what he had died of. The words were that fast all I could make out was sclerosis. Because we were with the intellectually disabled I thought “tubular sclerosis?” Then I realized it was multiple sclerosis.
When we were having a tea break Kym told me that his uncle died of multiple sclerosis. I was amazed and said that his uncle had “told” me this!
Kym said “Get more”! I informed him that I couldn’t.
But I saw panama hats and monkeys. I said “He was a missionary in South America” Kym said “Yes”. I then saw masks and a jungle and said he was also a missionary in New Guinea. Kym told me this wasn’t so. When Kym came to work the next day, he said that his mother had confirmed that her brother was a missionary in New Guinea. This showed that I wasn’t just reading Kim’s mind.
AHIMSA
I didn’t write this to brag about my clairvoyant abilities or to make money (coz it doesn’t anyway)
Everyone is clairvoyant — the ability atrophies because or culture tells us that it doesn’t exist – I was fortunate enough that my Dad was a Spiritualist — although he didn’t tell me until I was 29
The clairvoyant Experiences of a Sceptic is not a literary masterpiece

MISCONCEPTIONS
I realize some people still equate witches with evil people who sacrifice animals.
Not us!
I moved to a retirement village at the end of April 2023 – I have only told one person in the village that I am a witch and a clairvoyant –this age group definitely think witches are evil –am wearing my pentagram today no one has noticed
Me when I was teaching “would be witches” in 2001
This is the first page of my Book of Shadows started in 1983

“Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfil
An it harm NONE
Do what thou will”
The concept that witches were evil began at the inquisition when the Church of Rome was trying to get rid of the Old Religion and the women herbalists.

The Satanists, who we are sometimes equated with, got their ideas from Malleus Maleficarum,
which is about how to torture people to get them to say they worship the devil and not about witchcraft as it says if you Google!
Our rituals are similar to American Indian rituals –at least the one I am aware of, which is Sioux tradition.
After telling a friend that I used to lecture on Wicca in the 1980s and early 1990s –
I told her that in the 1990s when it was becoming popular it attracted a lot of people to training courses
Her reply was “you must have made a lot of money“
WE DID NOT CHARGE
Neophytes were asked to donate for candles and incense.
Back to witches not being evil.
I will not kill anything — Not spiders: mice: insects: trees –
I believe everything that exists has consciousness and deserves respect.
I have cried on many occasions because I haven’t been able to save a bird: animal or reptile that had been hit by a car – at least I move them off the road so that they are not continuously run over.
I get upset when moths throw themselves at the window to get to the light.
This doesn’t mean there are not people out there calling themselves witches and killing animals.
Male witches are called witches,
so if someone claims to be a warlock be suspicious.
***
The following words had different meanings once:
Wicca meant wise or to bend
Heathen = dweller on the heath
Pagan = village dweller
Weird = magic
Sinister = left-handed
***
Blessed be

I should have called this book LIFE AFTER DEATH as my experiences convinced me that this life isn’t all that there is – mind you the last time I posted a blog with this title it only got 2 likes – guess I am threatening the status quo

It is Mid Summer here = Litha
and Mid Winter – Yule in the northern hemisphere.

The Wheel Of The Year: pagan festivals celebrating the seasons:
solstices and equinoxes.
When the Romans and Christianity took over they could not get rid of these festivals:
So every church festival was originally a pagan one.
FYI – pagan means village dweller.
Wicca means wise –or to bend
Heathen means dweller on the heath.

This was the first blog that I wrote in April 2012.
A friend and I were talking about honesty recently:
I said that I had never stolen anything and that I don’t tell lies:
She said “same”.
Being true to ones self is much more than just being honest. This Shakespeare quote is how I try to live my life.
Our culture operates on the assumption that people are honest and truthful yet this often isn’t so.
On a “white lie” level; how often do people say what they think the other person wants to hear or simply tell a lie to get attention? Sadly, lying, cheating stealing and scams are rampant. On the other hand one could argue that telling the truth is not always kind.
I feel so strongly about telling the truth as I believe it to be that even if I accidentally lie I feel guilty. What I write I believe either to be true or possible. I am not “into” absolute ideologies, so I acknowledge this is only my opinion.
The following is from Marion Weinstein’s “Positive Magic” (page 234; Positive Magic: Earth Magic productions New York; 1st published in 1978 by Simon & Schuster Pocket Books New York)
“Makeru, or The Word of Truth
The concept of Ma’Keru, or Maat, was a highly regarded state of being in ancient Egypt. In fact, it was always hoped that by the time a person died, he/she would have reached this state of personal evolution. The word itself is difficult to translate. In hieroglyphics, it look like
Witches who trace their own traditions back to the early Egyptian Mysteries still intergrate the concept of Ma’Keru, Maat, or The Word of Truth into their work. Once one has attained Ma’Keru, every word that is spoken literally comes true. The greater Gods and Goddesses were in this state, and you too may strive for it – as the witches do, in essence -for yourself. This state is attained by being very careful to say exactly only what one means. Consequently, “idle chatter, or lying” serves only to dissipate the truth and the Power. In our own lives, this means: Watch what you say! Say what you mean, and mean what you say.”
In my life time society’s attitude to clairvoyance and associated philosophy’s has improved along with attitudes to minority groups such as women; different races; sexual preference; etc.
Although there are still many “out there” who consider clairvoyance to be a con at best and evil at worst.
People are free to believe as they choose and I have no desire to alter people’s beliefs or opinions.
I do not require others to believe as I do to make it true.
The clairvoyants that I know (including myself) are genuine and honest and coming from integrrity. I am very aware that there are charaltans who are more interested in making money than helping people. How prevalent this is, is dificult to ascertain. I was made aware of a scam last century where people who went for readings were told that an “hex” had been put on them and were told it would cost $2,000 to remove same. No doubt similar scams still happen.
The way to avoid being conned is to tust ones “gut”! To quote or maybe para phrase Dr. Deepak Chopra: We should always trust our gut. Every cell in our bodies has neuropeptides which means every cell thinks. It is better to trust your gut because it hasn’t learned to doubt what it thinks.
I am able to “see and communicate” with people that have died as well as other discarnate beings. I know that my clairvoyant ability is genuine because I was extremely sceptical in the 1970’s when I first participated in Spiritualist psychic developement groups. I made sure that I was being honest with myself so that I knew that I was really “seeing”.
Everyone is clairvoyant. Because we live in a culture that denies the existence of this ability; the ability atrophies.
When I “see”(clairvoyance); “hear” (clairaudience) or “feel” (clairsensience); it flashes in a fraction of a second. The Spiritualists would train us to remembr by putting numerous items on a tray: Covering same with a tea towel; removing towel for a fraction of a second and then cover the items again. We had to see how many items we could remember and describe.
Knowing that I have helped someone by proving that their loved one is genuinely communicating is my greatest reward. I am not interested in the payment, although I don’t refuse the money. I have done readings for an exchange or for free in some circumstances.
My first paid reading for the public was in 1980 when I worked in a coffee lounge called “The Sixth Sense” which was in O’Connell Street, North Adelaide.
Despite my clairvoyant awareness and experiences I do not claim to understand the nature of reality. I have my theories but am also aware that these theories are limited by the cultural and personal concepts that I have. Even analogies cannot really help me understand this multi universe and what is beyond.
I realize that I have gone off on a tangent from the original title but this is something that I often do so in essence I am still being true to myself.
Long before the movie “The Matrix” came out I used to say to people in my psychic development groups —“Imagine we are in a virtual reality.” The movie “the Matrix” is creatively brilliant. The surreal colour: The names of the characters: The way the dialogue was presented: the social satire. And it questions “what is real”
In my early twenties I was facinated by the similarity between atoms & solar systems. I can remember associating the concept of an atom with that of a solar system. The protons & neutrons being the sun and the electrons the planets. But this is definitely way off on a tangent.
Now I think I had better be true to myself and end this blog!
I didn’t write this to brag about my clairvoyant abilities or to make money (coz it doesn’t anyway)
Everyone is clairvoyant — the ability atrophies because our culture tells us that it doesn’t exist – I was fortunate enough that my Dad was a Spiritualist — although he didn’t tell me until I was 29
The clairvoyant Experiences of a Sceptic is not a literary masterpiece
but a true story.
